Case Study: EPMO of a telecom infrastructure company in ANZ

The Company

Kordia Solutions is an end to end telecommunications, communications, broadcast and infrastructure service provider. Kordia’s engineers, technicians, riggers, and project specialists have the experience and skills required to design, deploy and maintain critical networks and infrastructure. Kordia delivers a wide range of engineering and technical services including operations and maintenance, network planning, design and integration, network deployment, and telecommunications and broadcast infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand.

The Scope of the Engagement

The proposed EPMO will align with the group of program/project managers and GMs, reporting into the management team and functioning as a trusted provider of data dashboard for performance measurement and reporting, so as to help in making decisions based on intelligence gathered on the project portfolio.

The PMO will have a broad span of influence extending beyond the pure delivery and project management role, playing an enabler in sales, contracts, resource selection, service line co-ordination, vendor selection and quality management.

How we Helped? Our Approach

RankOne conducted a four weeks assessment with a focus on the interdependencies between business processes and IT solutions. The context area will be Kordia’s project related business with a further focus on PMO and project execution systems.

RO  conducted structured meetings with Kordia’s designated appropriate business functions, PMO and IT stakeholders and as part of this exercise the deliverables will be a review of existing and envisaged  processes/PMO, its composition, key measurements, tools/technology and capability, via,

  • Understand the diverse project types and their complexity/dependencies that are being executed
  • Review PMO objectives and alignment of delivery process
  • Advise on opportunities for  short/medium and long term improvement, harmonization

Case Study:  Booting up an e-Cell Cybersecurity incubation at MNNIT, India

The Company

A global incubation of the NIT, Allahabad (A top 20 engineering school of India) E-Cell; an entrepreneur cell incubation with specialization in Cyber security. Founded by young college grad entrepreneurs with innovative ideas in the emerging field of cyber security, they sought hand holding and assistance in moving their ideas into the business world with a startup pure focus on services and product (www.kratikal.com).

The Scope of the Engagement

We realized that their energy and passion had to be channelized to a workable strategy and further supported through funding and execution, thereby in the creation of a product in the field of cyber risk assessment. Our advisors came onboard of the company to assist in this and to that end achieved the desired results. The sales and marketing strategy had to be chalked out too and execution of that strategy needed to be stitched through pro-active engagement and market feedback and progress.

How we helped? Our Approach

Our team of consultants furthered the following results over a period of one year and in continuing engagements covering,
1. Developed the funding plan and helped in seed funding raise efforts along with the E-Cell.

Case Study: Fulfilling the role of Interim CTO for an EduTech. Services startup

The Company

CISO Cybersecurity is the first and only services organization in India to look at cybersecurity from an all-encompassing perspective – consulting and advisory, skill development and awareness at citizen, academia, corporate and government levels.

Founded by an investment by the Statesman group in 2013, it is focused on digital skills development (cybersecurity and IS certifications) using technology. A solution for private, remote video proctoring of exams (DIGIPROCTOR) was conceived to be a core platform for extended reach and for use of alliance partners and users.

The Scope of the Engagement

The company was looking for the services of a team led by a senior technology executive for creating the solution architecture, MVP and cloud-based rollout plan in the interim, till they hired a full-fledged CTO and dedicated inhouse technology team.

How we Helped? Our Approach

Given the stage of their evolution and opportunities in the marketplace, we recommended that they should begin with first doing a narrow market survey assessment of the opportunity and only then focus on creating their aligned technology architecture and a MVP scoped to meeting market needs, rather than hire a full time CTO and inhouse engineering team to fully build out an existing scope and concept.

RankOne consultants were hired as interim execs for the CTO office functions, in helping drive the product strategy, design and engineering engagement. Our interim managers collaborated with the agencies conducting MR analysis, then helped created the detailed product architecture and design. With deep connects with digital technology companies and our experiences in telecom and EdTech, RO were able to engage the right fit specialized vendors for Video streaming, integration and UX design.

Outcomes

Based on our proposed solution design and fitness for marketplace assessments as well as  on our recommendations, the client was happy to outsource this project to our affiliate company to build forward the concept and create the MVP (See case study) under the supervision of our executives.

The MVP product was deployed on the AWS EC2 platform and a few beta clients were acquired.

After the MVP was tested/validated with users, it was scaled ready for market, the business took it over and our interim CTO handed over baton to their management for the next stage of product evolution and growth.

Our partner/affiliate company continues to support them on this journey.

The challenge to build more consistent and steady revenue streams was a key area of work. The company lost a very large client in 2015 and this had created challenges for operations and growth. We helped by bringing to their business a vertical specialization strategy to ensure better market results, consistency on revenues, steadier cashflows and profits.

Case Study: Product Strategy for a SaaS FSM Technology Solution

The Company

A global SaaS platform for field sales and services management horizontal processes in a digital (mobile first) model and a vertical bias towards the Industrials/Manufacturing/ Utilities sectors (www.connixt.com).


The Scope of the Engagement

The Challenge: Digitally enabling the industrial, engineering, utilities enterprises in India – making it easy for businesses and their customers, suppliers, contractors & field employees to collaborate, especially those with large assets on the field, who require a solution for the uniquely Indian needs given local issues related to people, infrastructure and operational processes.

How we helped? Our Approach

Based on our understanding of the local marketplace needs, the experience of our consultants in the industry sector and our technology specialists we recommended that they focus first on a solution that meets the needs of the Indian mid-market (which would be the earliest to adopt the solution) as an entry path to build some client base in India.

We then helped design product strategy for Connixt India (via their subsidiary Intellithink) for Field Service Management on the Cloud. The product will help to automate, optimize and increase the efficiency of Field Service Management operations.

Before embarking on an exhaustive product development program, we helped to first create and firm-up the product requirements, technology and feature sets and prepare a phased development and beta customer/s roll out strategy.

Outcomes

Our consultants also assisted in the discussion with the management and investing/ budgeting teams and facilitated the dialogue with development teams for subsequent efforts. The good progress on the scoping exercise helped one of our partner firms/affiliates, to also be the provider of the engineering service to deliver the product and build it forward.

The product met the needs of the customers and subsequently it has been rolled out to more SMEs in the sector and gaining customers.
